El Barrio Raíces Summer Program 2021

El Barrio Raíces Summer Program is a three-week summer program that offers theatre training to children between the ages of 9 and 12. The program is free of charge and open to all residents of NYC. This year's program will focus on community empowerment and strengthening family traditions, encouraging students to explore their heritage through the performing arts. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about all disciplines of theatre, including acting, dance, make-up, ensemble work, costumes, and sets. Our bilingual team of teaching artists will facilitate all classes.

When: July 26th - August 13th, 2021
Where: Julia de Burgos Performance and Arts Center, East Harlem.
The final presentation for the program be in-person on August 11th at 6pm.

Esta pieza es una obra de teatro divertida y profunda a la vez, donde el público será parte imprescindible de la historia. Si hay tantas cosas en el mundo que merecen la pena... ¿por qué es tan difícil la vida?Una joven llevaaños haciendo una lista con las cosas extraordinarias de este mundo,aquellas cosas por las que merece la pena vivir. Su idea se remonta a cuando tenía seisaños, el día que su padre le fue a buscar al colegio porque su madre había intentadosuicidarse por primera vez. La desesperación de la niña ante la idea de perder a su madre lelleva a diseñar esta lista de cosas que, aunque en un principio tiene previsto un punto y final, acabará siendo una balsa de salvación durante toda su vida.

Boundless de Oro 2021

Boundless continues the collaboration with Fundación Yolanda Laprea in bringing free acting, dance and singing classes to the older adult community. This year the program will take place in-person.

Esta pieza fue comisionada a su autor en mayo del 2020, en respuesta a nuestra necesidad de hacer teatro en medio de la pandemia. La obra se presentó ante un público en persona limitado, mientras cientos de personas lo pudieron disfrutar de manera virtual en octubre del 2020. El concepto de la producción consistía en narrar tres historias con tres puntos de vista diferentes en una misma puesta. Los espectadores pueden escoger a cuales de los personajes quieren seguir y también pueden cambiar de personaje a personaje cuando gusten. Ahora en el 2022 revivimos este proyecto en formato ON DEMAND para el disfrute de todos. Adiós, Flora fue un proyecto pionero en el teatro pandémico por la innovación técnica, concepto, dirección y colaboración de diseño.

Sobre Adiós, Flora

Esta tragicomedia nos presenta la vida de Flora, una enfermera que, durante la pandemia, parece estar viviendo el peor momento de su vida. Se acaba de divorciar y está a punto de perder su trabajo en el hospital. Para colmo, Flora ha comenzado a sentirse enferma y ya no sabe bien cómo manejar su crisis. Pero su destino cambiará con la llegada del paciente de la habitación 26. Este personaje místico servirá como guía para que Flora redescubra lo verdaderamente importante en esta vida. Personajes que nos son familiares en situaciones absurdas, hacen de esta maravillosa tragicomedia la excusa perfecta para analizar la situación crítica de la pandemia y cómo esta afecta la vida de nuestros trabajadores de la salud.

In March of 2022, Boundless Theatre will celebrate our 10th production of Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Our magnificent adaptation of Gabriel García Marquez's classic novel is being presented as part of our educational performance program in Puerto Rico, which has served more than 55,000 students over the past nine years. As part of the program, teachers leading student groups will receive an educational guide to facilitate classroom discussion of the play. Boundless en Español 2022

This year we are excited to present the play Mercado Libre written by Luis Araújo, directed by Ismanuel Rodríguez. Cast and creative team to be announced in January 2022.

When: June 3-12, 2022
Where: Julia de Burgos Performance and Arts Center, NYC.

This production will be in Spanish with English super-tittles.

Boundless Exposed 2022

Boundless Exposed is a workshop and mentoring opportunity for early career designers of color. During this program, participating designers have the opportunity to work alongside experienced mentors in shaping an installation-style design based on a short play. The workshop includes ten collaborative design meetings over a ten-week period, as well as a final week of hands-on implementation and presentation. Designers will be selected through an application process, and participating designers will receive a $800 stipend upon conclusion of the program. Applications will be available in January. Application deadline: February 15th, 2022. Program will take place from February 22nd and April 29th, 2022.
